Next meeting 13 April 2026 – Assisted Dying Scenario – Glasgow

The next SCFAD event for members and supporters is an in-person event at Glasgow University on the afternoon of Monday 13 April 2026 to explore The practicalities of the assisted dying process in Scotland in a context of Christian pastoral care.

A number of SCFAD members and supporters will be taking on parts in a role play of the different steps that might apply in an actual situation where a committed Christian receives a terminal diagnosis and goes on to seek an assisted death.  The scenario will help us understand the different roles in such a scenario – including the patient, her GP, her church minister, the doctor to whom she is referred to go through the formal request for an assisted death, the various stages of approval, and final the stage where she feels the time is right and drugs are brought to her by a health care professional that will enable her to end her life.

We will be following the specific processes set out in the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill proposed by Liam McArthur MSP as amended at Stage 3 – this is the final Bill that MSPs will be asked to approve on 17 March 2026 – just a few weeks before our event.  Although SCFAD is broadly supportive of the Bill, the event will go ahead whether or not the Bill is passed.  (See the News page on this site for SCFAD’s comments on the progress of the Bill).

Advance booking is essential – there is no charge to attend but please email Gareth Morgan at info@scfad.org.uk or call 01368 864582 to book a place.
